Oils spills could be one of the most common dirt that you can find in your driveway. Whether that’s motor oil, brake fluid, or even gasoline, it is aggravating to see oil spilled in your asphalt or concrete driveway. Oil could be hard to clean, especially if your driveway had already absorbed it. As much as possible, that is why be attentive to fresh spills and put absorbent products right away. You can use cat litter, sand, cornmeal, baking powder, or even cornstarch to absorb the freshly spilled oil. Once it is dry, you can just sweep the absorbent material, scrub the affected area with a wire brush, and wash it with water to remove any oil traces.

Mud and Dirt

Dirt and mud can harden in your driveway especially if not given attention right away. A power washer can make it very much easier for you to remove hardened dirt and mud. So if you have one, go ahead and take it out. However, if you do not have a power washer, you can use a garden hose and stiff-bristled broom brush to clean the accumulated dirt and mud. You can first sweep the loose dirt. Then spray a generous amount of water in your driveway. Be sure to have all those hardened mud wet with water. Soak it for at least 5mins, just to soften the mud. You can then brush it with your broom brush to remove the dampened dirt and mud. Then wash it away using lots of water. This may take a while and will surely be a lot of work, depending on how much dirt and mud have accumulated in your driveway.

Rust Stains

Rust stains could be an eyesore, especially on concrete driveways. It could be a difficult stain to remove; however, it is not impossible to do it. Vinegar could be a great help to do it. Just pour a generous amount of white vinegar into the affected area. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes, then scrub it with a wire brush. Then wash it with water to remove the smell of the vinegar. However, if the stain is still stubborn, you can use a much stronger cleaner like muriatic acid. Fill a container, preferably a bucket, with 2 cups of water. Carefully pour in ¼ cup of muriatic acid. Slowly pour your solution on the rash affected area. Soak it for a few minutes, then scrub it with a wire brush. Be sure to rinse it with plenty of water. For safety, use rubber hand gloves to avoid your skin from any contact with the solution.
